Human history is the record of folly and madness, with new horrors added daily. All you have to do to hear how horrid things are in the world is to click onto any news broadcast. The pretty people with the microphones will be happy to showcase the negative and talk about it ad nauseam.
Yet, most of us, at least in North America, are doing pretty well. If we're not doing fabulously, we're at least surviving minimally adequately. Modern agriculture gets food grown and modern transportation gets it to the stores. We're not starving. We have homes with electricity and running water, roads, and a dizzying array of stores and eateries. We also have many sources of entertainment, including music, art, and a plethora of sports. We have parks, the internet, malls, theaters, museums, and galleries.
We also have first responders who always put others first, even at great risk to themselves. We have military personnel who serve to protect us, even when some people's actions and reactions prove that they don't deserve the sacrifices of those who wear the uniform of our nation. We have teachers who invest their lives in nurturing and educating the young, helping meld the next generations. We have doctors and nurses who risk their own health to lovingly care for others. We have scientists and inventors who challenge things as they are and try to meet the world's expectations that things can be even better. We have tradesmen and women who know how to do the things most of us can't.
Yes, I believe in humanity. Humans always seem to be on the brink of disaster and in a two-steps-forward-one-step back mode, but humanity still manages to survive. That's purely amazing, especially if you listen to the news!
